It’s December 3rd — Christmastime chaos is in full swing at my house. The halls have been decked weeks ago in a desperate bid to spark seasonal joy before seasonal stress sets in.

But now, the tinsel is tattered, the stockings look worn, and don’t even get me started on that forlorn Fraser fir shedding needles all over my usually flawless floor. Even my vintage nostalgic Christmas village looks a little too much like a post-apocalyptic North Pole scenario these days!

And then there’s Scout, my family’s vintage-inspired felt Elf on the Shelf, who mysteriously lost his holiday magic right around the time we needed it most.

His first few days home, Scout’s antics were motivating and met with delight — precariously perched atop the ceiling fan, scarfing leftover crumbs from the gingerbread house, using marshmallows to make a miniature snowelf!

But already, my two rambunctious kiddos greet Scout with little more than an exasperated, “Seriously, that’s it?” before rushing off into this morning’s tizzy. And I can’t blame them.
